According to the accounts, the Virgin Mary appeared to the children on the 13th day of the month from May to October in 1917. Mary urged them to pray the Rosary, to offer sacrifices for the conversion of sinners, and revealed three "secrets" to them. The secrets included a vision of hell, a prophecy of the end of World War I and the prevention of World War II if her requests were heeded, and a vision of the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II in 1981.
