Healing Your Chakras To Balance Your Body's Energies

Our body is constantly flowing with energy. It travels from the tops of our heads to the tips of our toes. That energy has a name. A chakra is a center of energy. Derived from the Sanskrit word for "wheel," our body contains seven of these powerful energy sources. The seven chakras are the root chakra, the sacral chakra, the solar plexus chakra, the heart chakra, the throat chakra, the third eye chakra, and, lastly, the crown chakra.

Imagine a spinning disc filled with energy and interacting with all our body's various systems. The chakras provide a constant flow of harmonious energy between those systems and throughout our bodies. If that flow of energy gets blocked or disrupted, our bodies become unbalanced. This can result in physical ailments, unhappiness, inability to focus, and a list of other issues. Understanding chakras and how they affect our bodies is an important step in maintaining both physical and mental health.

Healing The The Root Chakra

Located at the base of the spine, this chakra deals with the physical body and its connection to the Earth. Feelings of safety and being grounded are associated with the root chakra. It is considered the foundation from which all six other chakras feed. Imbalance with your root chakra can lead to sluggishness, depression, and poor circulation. Financial issues may also be the result of a blocked root chakra.

This chakra is associated with all things red. To clear a blocked root chakra, light a red candle anointed with ylang ylang oil or sandalwood oil. Recite the following affirmation:

I am safe, I trust in the natural flow of life.
I take my natural place in the world content in the knowledge that all I need will come to me in the right time and space.
I am secure and grounded in the physical form and give thanks to Mother Earth for the nourishment, shelter and stability she gives me.

Carry some tumbled carnelian stones in a red pouch with you. Make an effort to get some exercise, especially outdoors.

Healing The The Sacral Chakra

This chakra sits behind and slightly below your naval and is your body’s physical center. The source of your pleasure, passion, creativity, and sexual enjoyment, the energy of this chakra is connected to our emotions and feelings. Issues with intimacy, sensuality, and low libido can be caused by disturbances in your sacral chakra.

Garnet is a powerful stone linked to the sacral chakra. Carry these tumbled stones with you or place them on your altar when praying or meditating. The color orange is the color of the sacral chakra. To help balance this chakra, draw a hot bath. Anoint an orange candle with amber oil or orange oil and recite the following affirmation:

I love and enjoy my body.
I have healthy boundaries.
I am open to experiencing the present moment through my senses.
I am passionate.
I feel pleasure and abundance with every breath I take.
I nourish my body with healthy food and clean water.
I know how to take care of my needs.
I value and respect my body.
I am open to touch and closeness.
I allow myself to experience pleasure.
My sexuality is sacred.
Emotions are the language of my soul.
I take good care of my physical body.
I am at peace.

Massage is another technique used for clearing your sacral chakra. Light some cinnamon incense and put on some relaxing music while focusing on opening yourself up to creativity and passion.

Healing The Solar Plexus Chakra

Moving up the body, the solar plexus chakra is located below the breastbone and above the navel. This chakra is the home of your self-esteem, confidence, and willpower. If this chakra is depleted, you may feel worthless, powerless, and unable to motivate yourself to deal with life’s trials. Digestive problems, ulcers, and memory issues can all be related to an imbalanced solar plexus chakra.

These physical manifestations can be relieved in a variety of ways. Rosemary oil and lemon oil are connected to this chakra. Place dabs of the oil behind your ears and on your throat and wrists. Anoint a yellow candle, the color of the solar plexus chakra, and recite the following affirmation:

I effectively manifest the deep desires of my soul.
I am capable. My needs are important.
I can solve any problem that comes up. I respect myself.
I stand up for myself and what I believe in.

Meditation is also very helpful when working to unblock your solar plexus chakra. Create a mantra that you feel connected to and repeat it while you meditate. Goldstone and golden tiger eye stones are also powerful tools in balancing this chakra.

Healing The Heart Chakra

The center of the chest is home to the heart chakra. Kindness, generosity, and compassion are all linked to this chakra. The gateway to the soul, the heart energy connects us to all living things and allows us the capacity to feel love and care for others.

When your heart chakra is blocked, feelings of anger, jealousy, and resentment take over. It can be hard to see through the cloud of bitterness that an unbalanced heart chakra can cause. High blood pressure, heart disease, chest pain, and asthma can all be triggered by a blockage of the flow of energy in this chakra.

Balancing the heart chakra requires letting go of past hurts. Releasing the anger that you have been holding onto and making peace with injustices done to you will help your heart chakra to heal.

The color green is associated with this chakra. Aventurine and jade bracelets are wonderful talismans to serve as reminders of your intention to open your heart chakra. Jasmine, lavender, and rose incense are fragrant and soothing tools to assist in your path to balance.

Anoint a green candle with lavender oil and recite the following affirmation:

I am open to love.
All love resides within my heart.
I deeply and completely love and accept myself.
I nurture my inner child.
I am wanted and loved.
I live in balance, in a state of gracefulness and gratitude.
I love the beauty of nature and the animal world.
I forgive myself.
I am open to love and kindness.
I am grateful for all the challenges that helped me to transform and open up to love.
I am connected with other human beings.
I feel a sense of unity with nature and animals.
I accept things as they are.
I am peaceful.

Eating a diet full of leafy greens is a healthy way to open your heart chakra. Also, consider incorporating nature hikes into your routine. Focus on breathing in the fresh, pure air and breathing out any anger and resentment you are carrying in your heart.

Healing The Throat Chakra

As the name suggests, this chakra is located in the throat. The flow of energy connected to the throat chakra focuses on your inner voice and how you use it to communicate with those around you. Self-expression, trust, and loyalty surge through the throat chakra. Feelings of frustration and inadequacy arise when there is an imbalance in this area. You may find that you are unable to express yourself the way you want and that those around you do not understand you. Disruptions in this chakra can be manifested by throat and mouth problems, bronchitis, thyroid issues, and laryngitis.

Healing the chakra starts with asserting your self-worth. Treating yourself with love and dignity will help balance the flow of energy in the throat chakra. Blue is the color connected to this chakra. Aquamarine is an extremely powerful blue stone that you can use when manifesting your inner voice.

Anoint a blue candle with geranium oil and recite the following affirmation:

I am open, clear, and honest in my communication.
I have a right to speak my truth.
I communicate my feelings with ease.
I express myself creatively through speech, writing, or art.
I have a strong will that lets me resolve my challenges.
I nourish my spirit through creativity.
I live an authentic life.
I have integrity.
I love to share my experiences and wisdom.
I know when it is time to listen.
I express my gratitude towards life.
I listen to my body and my feelings to know what my truth is.
I take good care of my physical body.
I am at peace.

Singing, alone or in an organized setting, is a source of empowerment that can open up a blocked throat chakra. Consider joining a local choir. Or, if you prefer, belt out your favorite song in the car or shower.

Healing The Third Eye Chakra

Also called the Brow Chakra, this energy force is located on the forehead, between the eyes. The third eye chakra focuses on the flow of our imagination, wisdom, and intuition. The ability to trust our inner voice and the ability to strengthen our psychic powers is centered in our third eye. When questions of self-doubt enter our thoughts, our third eye chakra may be closed. Uncertainty about the path we are on and distrust in our choices starts as a nagging voice but can build to a deafening internal scream. Headaches, difficulty concentrating and learning disabilities are often manifestations of imbalance in the third eye chakra.

Balancing this chakra begins with strengthening your intuition. Activities such as yoga and meditation work to build your insight. Finding a quiet place for reflection and introspection are helpful ways to support your third eye and improve the energy flow from your third eye chakra. Light a spiritual balance chakra karma cleansing candle and recite the following affirmation:

I am in touch with my inner guidance.
I listen to my deepest wisdom.
I seek to understand and to learn from my life experiences.
I am wise, intuitive, and connected with my inner guide.
I nurture my spirit.
I listen to the wisdom of elders.
I trust my intuition.
I forgive the past and learn what was there for me to learn.
I forgive myself.
I love and accept myself.
I know that all is well in my world.
I am connected with the wisdom of the universe.
I am open to inspiration and bliss.
My life moves effortlessly.
I am at peace.
I am the source of my truth and my love.

The indigo blue associated with the third eye chakra represents the clarity of the sea and sky. Re-connect to nature and to your intuition by enjoying the solitude of the beach or nearby river or lake.

Healing The Crown Chakra

The last of the seven chakras sits on the top of the head. The crown chakra signifies our spiritual connection to our surroundings. Responsible for spirituality and enlightenment, a person with a strong flow of energy through their crown chakra will be a powerful leader, an inspirational visionary, and a healer to those in need. Any blockage in the flow of the energy of this chakra can lead to acts of selfishness, a loss of faith in a higher power, and feelings of worthlessness. Depression, circulatory problems, and insomnia may present when the crown chakra is unbalanced.

The vibrant color violet is associated with this chakra. The fragrant lavender and jasmine oils should be used by someone who is trying to improve the flow of energy to their crown chakra. Wear a purple necklace to remind you of your intention to reconnect to your spirituality. Carry quartz crystals with you. This powerful stone is considered a master healer and will focus on your purpose.

Light a purple candle and repeat the following affirmation:

I am part of the Divine.
I honor the Divine within me.
I seek to understand and to learn from my life experiences.
I cherish my spirit.
I seek experiences that nourish my spirit.
I listen to the wisdom of universe.
I trust my intuition.
I am open to letting go of my attachments.
I live in the present moment.
I am grateful for all the goodness in my life.
I love and accept myself.
I know that all is well in my world.
I am connected with the wisdom of the universe.
I am open to divine wisdom.
My life moves with grace.
I am at peace.

Yoga and reiki are very helpful when opening a blocked crown chakra. Make a commitment to yourself to take the steps necessary to open your mind and allow for the uninterrupted flow of energy throughout your body.
