Orishas and Their Tools
Learn about the traditional tools and toolsets used by the Orishas, the spirits in the Yoruba religion, in their rituals and offerings.
The 4” Elegua Head is a spiritually significant figure used in Santería, Lukumí, and other African Diaspora traditions to represent Elegua—the Orisha who governs the crossroads, communication, and destiny. Often made from clay or cement and adorned with cowrie shells, this head serves as a vessel through which practitioners honor and petition Elegua. Despite its smaller size, it carries immense spiritual energy and is commonly placed near doorways, on altars, or in travel kits to ensure safe passage, divine guidance, and the removal of obstacles. It is both a protective guardian and a gateway to deeper spiritual engagement.
